Proactiv: Advantages
and Disadvantages
About Proactiv:
Proactiv has been a hugely popular acne product for years now. It’s
been endorsed by numerous celebrities and users who excitedly explain
that Proactiv was the only acne treatment that ever worked for them.
Below we have outlined how this product works and some of the advantages
and disadvantages of Proactiv.
The Proactiv line consists of a three-step system designed to treat
and prevent acne breakouts. The basic system includes: 1) A gentle,
oil-free cleanser to exfoliate dead skin cells, 2) An alcohol-free
toner that removes the dead skin cells, clears pores by removing
excess oils, and soothes skin with botanical ingredients, and 3)
A light, oil-free lotion containing benzoyl peroxide that heals
the existing acne and prevents new acne. The directions explain
that you are should use each of the three steps morning and night.
Advantages:
Proactiv has gotten tons of really great reviews from people who
had long suffered from severe to mild acne, proclaiming that it
quickly cleared up their skin and prevented pimples from coming
back. From my own experience, I was first introduced to Proactiv
by my sister who did not have horrible skin but did get fairly frequent
breakouts. As soon as she started using Proactiv her face cleared
up and she didn’t get any new breakouts. It actually seemed
to improve her skin tone to a level better than it was before she
ever started breaking out. However, as soon as she stopped using
it for about a week, she immediately broke out. That shows that
this product needs to be used consistently to maintain healthy skin
and prevent breakouts. It’s like brushing your teeth or showering;
you need to do it everyday!
After seeing her results I had to try it, and I love it personally.
The cleanser exfoliates great and isn’t too rough like many
others that can hurt your skin. When it’s followed with the
toner your skin feels unbelievably clean and soothed at the same
time. I never had bad acne but would just get an occasional breakout
and this definitely prevents me from getting breakouts and my skin
looks and feels better than it ever did before.
Furthermore, Proactiv is a good deal, ranging anywhere from $19.99-$59.99;
it’s definitely a lot cheaper than taking multiple trips to
the dermatologist to receive expensive treatments that are often
experimental and don’t work. It’s also a better deal
than buying different skin care products separately at a store,
which could easily add up to over $80 a month.
It is so simple and easy to use since you don’t have to mess
with shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner
etc; it’s all in this one great package. While in the shower
you work the amazing smelling Sweet almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner
through your hair beginning at the roots to the ends. It won’t
later like traditional shampoos, it instead becomes a luxuriously
creamy foam that penetrates the hair to provide a gentle cleansing
while it nourishes and seals in moisture. You leave the Cleansing
Conditioner on for the duration of your shower and after rinsing
it out you can use a small amount of it as a leave-in conditioner
to really lock in moisture. When it dries your hair is perfectly
cleansed and looks and smells amazing with great body and beautiful
shine.
Disadvantages:
The benzoyl peroxide in Proactiv can make your skin a little more
sensitive to the sunlight, so you want to be sure to wear a sunscreen
with it. This is something you should be doing everyday anyway to
prevent aging and skin cancer. Proactiv has a really great oil-free
sunscreen that won’t clog your pores. Something to be aware
of is that the face wash can bleach your towels a little if you
don’t wash it all off before drying your face. Also, be careful
with imitations. There are numerous products that were developed
after Proactiv became so successful that claim they do the same
thing but in actuality they contain totally different ingredients
that can actually make your skin worse.
