A New App For Sustainable Fashion

Green Glam GoGoing green is all the rage right now. For many, that translates to using eco friendly light bulbs, setting your thermostat lower, cutting down on the amount of water you use and buying a hybrid car. But what people don’t realize is that you can be green in all areas of your life, not just things having to do with home appliances.

One such area is fashion. A new and rapidly expanding niche in fashion is known as eco fashion or sustainable fashion. Clothing that can be considered eco-friendly must meet two criteria: the clothing is made of environmentally friendly materials and the clothing is made by workers who are being treated fairly and who work in a safe environment. Sustainable fashion also includes things like vintage and handmade items. Vintage clothing fits into this fashion niche due to the fact that instead of throwing out something and creating more waste, the piece of clothing gets reused. Handmade clothing is often included in this niche because creating clothing on a small scale keeps production out of factories that can negatively impact the environment. Also, creators of handmade items may use recycled and/or locally sourced materials.

Far too often people have excused themselves from participating in sustainable fashion by saying that it’s hard to find clothing that meets the above mentioned criteria. But today sustainably fashionable clothes are becoming easier and easier to find. With the introduction of a new app called GreenGlamGo, finding sustainable fashion is just a click of a button away. GreenGlamGo.com is a mobile site and smart phone application that seeks to find and promote the best in sustainable fashion. Some of the categories you can search for through this app include vintage, handmade, Made in the USA, bridal and beauty products.

The creators of GreenGlamGo decided to create this app after experiencing firsthand how difficult it could be to find the perfect sustainable clothing. Not only was it difficult for them to locate stores, but with such a small market for sustainable fashion, people tended to keep quiet regarding their eco-friendly sources for fear of losing that fashion edge.

GreenGlamGo doesn’t feature lame knock offs and shoddy fashions – it caters to the high fashion market with exquisite and unique pieces by creative designers. Although the site has only been around for a few weeks, you can already see the high quality items it’s promoting. For example, there are beautiful handmade hats by Kitty Andrews, Fair Trade alpaca scarves by Eco Citizen and Leopard Print flat shoes that are not only Fair Trade but were also produced with almost zero factory waste, also by Eco Citizen. The downside to designer fashion is that the items listed on GreenGlamGo tend to be on the more expensive side. However, the maxim “you get what you pay for” certainly holds true for the items found here – they’re certainly worth the money.

GreenGlamGo doesn’t just benefit consumers – it also gives eco friendly businesses and creators the exposure they need to keep going. Producing an eco-friendly clothing or product line on a small scale can be more expensive than clothing produced on a mass (environmentally unfriendly) scale in factories. By helping these small businesses expand their market and appeal to people around the world, hopefully they will begin to thrive and be able to eventually lower their prices.
