Medifast Diet Review

Medifast is a diet program that has been available for over 20 years. It was originally only used under doctor supervision, but has recently become available for purchase over the Internet and has since exploded with popularity. It is mail delivery diet service designed for people who are too busy to deal with grocery shopping, reading labels, counting calories, and cooking. The diet consists of high-protein, low-calorie, and low-carbohydrate foods. The most popular version is the 5 & 1 Plan that is available in three options: specifically designed for men, women, and those with diabetes. On this plan you eat five Medifast foods that include: shakes, bars, oatmeal, soups, and other drinks, and one “lean and green” meal a day. With the lean and green meal you eat a 5-7 ounce serving of lean meat with 3 servings of vegetables.
What makes Medifast different from other similar diets is that is has been medically tested and proven effective. The John Hopkins University conducted a experiment of the diet and reported that it resulted in significant weight loss in both men and women. Average weight loss was between 50 and 70 pounds. In addition the Medifast diet plan is recommended by over 15,000 doctors to their patients nationwide.
What’s good about this diet?
Medifast is very convenient dieting option. It takes away the whole aspect of having to figure out what you can and can’t eat. You are able to just go online, order the food and it ships to your home with easy to follow instructions. The food isn’t bad either. You get to chose what foods you feel like eating when. For example, you can eat the Lean and Green meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner and then eat the 5 Medifast meals throughout the rest of the day. Although most people have explained they found it works best for them to eat the Lean and Green meal for dinner. The best tasting (in my opinion) and most popular foods are the bars and shakes which come in a wide variety of flavors like Banana Crème and Swiss Mocha. At first you might think you would be craving regular food all day. However, on Medifast you eat every three hours so you really never get hungry which is amazing because you are eating so few calories.
The best part about Medifast is that it definitely makes you lose weight rapidly, anywhere between 2-5 pounds a week. And it’s just so easy. You only need to cook one meal a day and everything else is pretty much ready to eat or takes only a minute to prepare.
Some drawbacks:
Because this is a low-calorie meal you may feel a slight decrease in energy level for the first couple of weeks until you get adjusted to it. But this is to be expected and your body adjusts to the reduced calorie diet. Also, this is a low-carbohydrate diet, so you don’t any breads or grains in the beginning. However towards the end you slowly introduce these foods back into your diet in a portion controlled way. I found that if you are consistent with the program you don’t crave anything after awhile. It’s amazing how your body is able to adjust to a new routine so quickly. I would also like to mention that this diet leads to significant weight loss and should be used for those who are serious about dieting and looking to lose 20 pounds or more.
