How to Create Big Bold Eyes!

Eye makeup is one of the most creative aspects of the persons face. You can create some sort of fantasy, or you can be a plain Jane – along with anything in-between.

How you apply your eye makeup, along with what colors you may use, can create different looks, as well as make your eyes look smaller or bigger. One small change of the application can alter the entire look.

For example, eyeliner on the top and bottom can make your eyes look bigger, however if you make the top liner thicker and then give a cat-eye tail, it will make your eyes look smaller and your lid look larger. Both looks can be flattering, just depends on what look you’re going for.

One way to make eyes look bigger is by using white eyeliner on the inner rim of the top and bottom lashes. Many brands make an “eye brightener”, which is a white pencil that is used as eyeliner. When used correctly, it will make the white part of the eye look larger, creating a bigger eye area. Keeping the eyeliner on the simple side, maybe a lighter color on the bottom and thinner line on the top, it keeps the illusion of the larger eyeball. Light colors on the lid also help create that. Just like nude/skin tone shoes make your legs look longer because there is the illusion that the leg keeps going, this is the same concept. Lighter lid colors can make your eyes look bigger, but that doesn’t mean your makeup has to be boring. In the crease you can use a variety of colors to create the look the suits you the most. Also, eyeliner doesn’t have to be your basic black, other than the brightener pencil; you can use an array of colors. Usually colors that complement your eye color makes your eyes look bolder. For example, green eyes look great with shades of purple or yellow. Blue eyes can stand out with pink, but if you’re more daring, corals and orange tones really make them pop. A common rumor says to match your eye shadow to the color of your eye to make it stand out, however green eye shadow won’t make green eyes stand out, it will actually take away from them.

I also believe that long lashes just make your eyes look larger, especially if they are curled. I love when you get that perfect curled lash and then have great mascara coated all over them. It makes your eyes look larger by framing them.

I always feel that when using dark color eye shadows, whatever the colors may be, is when you really want to take advantage of that eye brightener pencil. The dark tones can give the illusion of a closed eye; therefore you would want something to give the illusion of opening it back up.
