eMatrix: Treating Wrinkles Without Surgery

The world of aesthetic medicine continues to evolve at very rapid pace as seen by the eMatrix laser. Just a few short years ago the concept of treating wrinkles without surgery was a dream. Today we are now fortunate to live in a time that not only can we treat aging skin but it has become part of mainstream culture to “freshen up” ones appearance to maintain a youthful appearance.

Laser based technology has led the way in this Aesthetic revolution. Traditional lasers were fully ablative. This means that they would target the entire area of skin treated resulting in lengthy recovery including long periods of redness and higher risk of complications. With the advent of fractional technology only a small percentage of the skin is targeted but the depth of penetration can be much deeper. So the recovery is shorter and the risks are less.

The eMatrix is a new paradigm based on fractional technology. Instead of laser or light based sources, the eMatrix utilizes ownt radio frequency based energy to target the deeper layers of the skin and leaving the majority of l the surface untouched. This heating of the dermis is called “sublative rejuvenation.” Collagen is heated, stimulating contraction and new collagen formation. Clinically this helps patients soften fine lines and wrinkles. Radio frequency is unique in that it does not target specific colors like some lasers. This allows treatment in the full range of skin types from fair skin to darker skin types.

The eMatrix has been used for photoaging, acne scars, pores, and achieving that all important “glow” that we all strive for. Young adults with acne are often left with dark pigmentation or scarring. It can be difficult for a person who desires treatment to take off two weeks from work-as would be the case for traditional laser resurfacing. eMatrix is an excellent option for those who desire effective treatment with less downtime. In our offices we treat many high profile patients including celebrities, athletes, and politicians. For individuals who wish to be discrete about their treatment this has become an optimal choice. Often patients are told “you look refreshed!” as they undergo their gradual transformation and others may never know that they are having anything done. It is expected that some redness and small “pepper-like” crusts for a few days but the actual downtime is usually minimal compared to traditional lasers.

eMatrix has quickly become one of the most popular treatments in Dr. Afsahi’s practice. For more information from Dr. Afsahi and other procedures visit www.southcoastdermatology.com.
