| Before we apply eye makeup,
lip gloss and blush, we begin with a base. The base – or foundation
and powder – is the most important part of your makeup routine. Do
it right, and you'll look like a million bucks. Do it wrong, and you're
a cosmetics casualty. We've come a long way from those old orangey
pancake foundations. In recent years, cosmetics companies have released
sophisticated formulations that cater to a wide range of skin types,
and shade ranges have never been more extensive or realistic. While
it betters the odds of women finding foundation, concealer and powder
that actually looks flattering and natural, it also means women have
to wade through hundreds of products to find their perfect match.
The vast amount of misinformation circulating on
the Internet only makes for more confusion, since much of it is
biased or not written by journalists or experts who have done thorough
research. Searching for and then trying to figure out what information
is accurate and trustworthy is too time-consuming for most women.
The flip side is buying expensive books, and many of the authors
of these books have their own cosmetics or skincare lines, making
unbiased information and product recommendations impossible.
Even women who already wear foundation may not
be wearing the right one. Most of us have seen people who are obviously
wearing the wrong shade (their face doesn't match their neck), or
have not applied it properly (the makeup looks caked and thick).
The point of makeup is not to cover up every single last blemish
or line. It is to give you the best possible coverage and look for
your skin color and type. It serves to enhance your natural beauty,
not mask it.
I do not sell or own any cosmetics brands, nor
am I affiliated with any brands. All of the information is current
and updated as of Spring 2006. Product suggestions are based on
thorough research and consumer recommendations. |
